Short hair is so awesome, what’s not is having this awkward-length-lob-business going on. To distract myself from the waiting game, I went straight to the hairdressers and asked them to chop me up some long layers. The result is being able to alternate between straight hair and wavy hair. Curly hair on a blunt cut does not work. For me anyways.

Weapons to achieve: a curling iron, heat protectant serum, hairspray (optional)
1. Always, start off with some sort of heat protectant serum of some kind. Curling and straightening (any sort of heat appliance) on a regular basis can cause your hair to burn and dry out. Prevention is key.

2. I never pull my hair into sections, clip it or tie it and curl it from there. I tend to work with the front sections first and move my way towards to the back of my head. Use your judgement and alternate the thickness of the curl. This will give it a messy, undone finish rather than aligned perfect curls. My sections are usually divided to 5cm thickness or 3cm thickness.
A genetic blamed problem I face, is having a round faced shape. Avoid a heavy curl around the cheek bones, an area which can widen your face shape. Opt for a looser, lighter curl, almost like a soft wave. Having some soft layers put through my hair, allowed the ends to allude to a softer finish which softens the roundness of my face shape and doesn’t emphasise any width.
Oval faces are the universal shape, so anything will work on you lucky things. A good haircut and styling should flatter your face shape.
3. Always curl away from your face. So the curls should work away from the face and shouldn’t fold inwards. Alternate between each curl, starting the tongs at different heights. Few strands should face the opposite direction, this will avoid them meshing into one big giant curl.

4. After doing one side, repeat the same steps for the other. Duh.

5. After you think you’ve finished, look for any loose straight strands and give them a quick curl. Put heat on it for alittle bit - almost wave it instead of a full curl. Too many curls will probably just result in a poodle like afro.
If you have time the night before, I love to curl my hair with a slightly more tighter curl and sleeping on it. This means that in the morning, it’s the perfect wave with some sex hair volume action going on. This is a morning rush saving trick.
6. Give it a quick toussel with your fingers. This will add volume and loosen the curls up.

I usually flip my head upside down for 2 seconds while running my fingers through it. If you do too, come back up straight and neaten it up. Unless you want to look like this.

7. Optional - spray some hairspray to the ends. This will maintain the curls for the day, so if your hair is fine this step is recommended. I also like adding spray to my roots just to hold the volume. For your fringe, once styled - grab the hairspray and spray it on your fingers. Quickly mould and style it to your preference with the hairsprayed fingers.
And voila, curls for the lob or middle length haired girl.
